Cool Facts
Symbol of Power. A crown is a special hat that monarchs wear to show everyone that they are the ruler and have authority over a kingdom or country. It's been a symbol of power and importance for thousands of years.
More Than Just a Hat. A crown isn't just a fancy decoration. It actually represents the whole government and the monarchy itself, not just the person wearing it. In some countries, the crown itself is so important that it represents the kingdom even when no one is wearing it.
Heraldry Rules. In heraldry, which is the study of family symbols and coats of arms, crowns follow very strict rules about how they look and what they mean. Different types of crowns can tell you about a person's rank and importance.
Not Always Real. Some monarchies, like Belgium, never even had an actual physical crown to wear. Instead, they just used a picture or heraldic symbol of a crown to represent their ruler and kingdom.
