The Constitution. Norway wrote its constitution on May 17, 1814, which is why this date became their National Day. It's the document that set up how the country would be governed and protect the rights of Norwegian people.

Called Syttende Mai. In Norwegian, Constitution Day is known as Syttende mai, which simply means May 17th. Norwegians call it this name so often that many people think of it as the official name for the whole celebration.

Children Are Stars. Kids dress up in traditional costumes and march in parades through towns and cities all across Norway. These children's parades are one of the most beloved parts of the celebration, with bands and flags everywhere.

Independence Moment. May 17, 1814 was when Norway officially said they were no longer under Danish rule and created their own government. This makes Constitution Day extra special because it celebrates freedom and self-governance.
