Straight and speedy. Drag races happen on a perfectly straight track, not on a twisty course like other races. The most common distance is a quarter mile, though shorter 1,000-foot races are becoming more popular too.

Electronic timers. Since the 1960s, special electronic systems have measured exactly how fast cars go and when they cross the finish line. This makes the results super precise and fair.

Two at a time. Drag racers compete one-on-one, with two vehicles racing side by side down the track from a complete stop. The first one to the finish line wins.

Cars and motorcycles. Both powerful cars and motorcycles compete in drag racing, making it exciting for fans who love different kinds of vehicles. Some of the fastest racers are called Top Fuel dragsters and Funny Cars.
