Dinosaurs roamed freely.. During the Early Cretaceous, many famous dinosaurs like Velociraptor, Spinosaurus, and Iguanodon walked the Earth. These amazing creatures came in many sizes, from tiny hunters to enormous long-necked giants.

Flowers appeared for the first time.. The Early Cretaceous saw the first flowering plants emerge on Earth. Before this time, Earth was covered mostly by ferns, conifers, and other plants that reproduced without colorful flowers.

Continents were splitting apart.. During this period, the supercontinent Pangaea continued to break up into the continents we know today. The spreading oceans created new seaways that separated different dinosaur populations.

Strange new reptiles evolved.. The Early Cretaceous saw the rise of new types of dinosaurs and other reptiles that had never existed before. Some had fancy crests on their heads, while others had long spines running down their backs.

The climate was warm.. There were no ice caps at the North and South Poles during the Early Cretaceous. The whole planet was warmer and more humid than it is today, with lush rainforests covering much of the land.
