Cool Facts
Splits the power. A distribution board takes one big electrical feed coming into your home and divides it into many smaller circuits, like branches on a tree. Each branch safely delivers electricity to different rooms.
Protects everything. Each circuit has its own fuse or circuit breaker that acts like a bodyguard. If too much electricity tries to flow through a wire, the breaker instantly clicks off to stop fires and damage.
Stops dangerous leaks. Modern distribution boards have special devices called RCDs that detect when electricity is leaking where it shouldn't be. If you accidentally touch a wet wire, the RCD stops the flow in a fraction of a second to prevent shocks.
The main switch. At the top of the distribution board is a main switch that can turn off all electricity to your entire home instantly. This is super handy in emergencies or when you're doing repairs.
