Cool Facts
Energy does work.. Energy is what makes things happen. It can move a ball, heat water, light a lamp, or power a rocket. Whenever something changes or moves, energy is doing the job.
Energy never disappears.. The law of conservation of energy says you can't create or destroy energy, you can only change it from one form to another. When you burn wood, the energy becomes heat and light instead of vanishing.
Energy takes many forms.. Energy can be heat (warmth), light (brightness), movement (called kinetic energy), stored power (called potential energy), electricity, sound, and even the energy locked inside atoms.
We measure energy in joules.. Scientists measure energy using a unit called the joule, named after a scientist named James Joule. One joule is the amount of energy it takes to lift an apple one meter straight up.
The Sun gives us energy.. Almost all the energy on Earth comes from the Sun. Plants capture sunlight, we eat plants or animals, and our bodies use that energy to run, think, and grow.
