Cool Facts
Bridges and buildings. Engineers use math and science to figure out how to build structures that are safe and stay standing for hundreds of years. They have to think about weight, wind, earthquakes, and weather all at once.
Invention and design. Every invention you use, from phones to bicycles to video game controllers, started as an engineering project. Engineers imagined something that could solve a problem, then designed it carefully to actually work.
Balancing tradeoffs. Engineers can't always have everything perfect at once. They balance things like cost, safety, speed, and how good it looks to make the best solution within real-world limits.
Math and science tools. Engineers use the laws of physics and chemistry like building blocks. Understanding how gravity, electricity, and materials work helps them predict what will happen before they build something.
Solutions for people. The best engineering is motivated by helping humans solve real problems. From clean water systems to prosthetic legs to lifeboats, engineers create things that make the world better.
