Huge hunting bird. The Eurasian eagle-owl is one of the biggest owls on Earth, with a wingspan that can stretch almost 6 feet wide. It's a fierce predator that hunts rabbits, foxes, and even other birds under the cover of darkness.

Feathered ear tufts. Those fancy pointed feathers on its head aren't real ears, they're just decorative feathers called ear tufts. Scientists think they help the owl look bigger and scarier to rivals and prey.

Found everywhere. This owl lives across most of Europe and Asia, from Spain to Japan, making it one of the most widespread eagle-owls in the world. It adapts to forests, mountains, deserts, and even rocky cliffs.

Super night vision. Like all owls, the Eurasian eagle-owl has enormous forward-facing eyes that let it see in darkness about 100 times better than humans. Its silent feathers let it swoop down on prey without warning.

Master of the night. These owls are nocturnal, which means they hunt and live mainly at night and rest during the day. Their deep hooting calls echo through forests and can be heard from far away.
