Cool Facts
Striped diggers. European badgers have thick black and white striped faces and chunky bodies built for digging. They can dig incredibly fast, using their strong claws to create underground homes called setts.
Nose superpowers. Their sense of smell is so sharp they can find food buried deep underground. This helps them hunt earthworms, insects, and small animals in the dark.
Night creatures. Badgers are mostly active at night, so you won't see them during the day. They spend daylight hours resting in their burrows to stay safe.
Thriving population. European badgers live across a huge range from the UK to Central Asia, and their numbers are actually growing in many places. Scientists rate them as 'least concern' because they're doing so well.
Social diggers. Unlike some badgers that live alone, European badgers often live together in family groups sharing the same burrow system.
