Cool Facts
Massive digging machine. An excavator is a piece of heavy equipment used on construction sites to move earth, rocks, and other materials. It can dig deep holes, clear land, and help build everything from roads to buildings.
Spinning platform power. The excavator sits on a rotating platform called the house that spins around, letting the bucket and boom reach materials in almost any direction without the whole machine having to move.
Hydraulic arm strength. The long arm, called a boom, uses hydraulic power (fluid pressure) to lift and move incredibly heavy loads, making it strong enough to move boulders and massive amounts of soil.
Operator in the cab. A skilled operator sits inside the protected cab and uses joysticks and controls to carefully maneuver the boom and bucket, working with precision even when doing tough jobs.
Many shapes and sizes. Excavators come in different sizes, from small ones that fit in tight spaces to giant ones used in mining that can move rocks as big as cars.
