What factories do. Factories take raw materials like metal, plastic, or cloth and use big machines and workers to transform them into finished products like cars, phones, clothes, and toys. Most of the stuff you own was made in a factory somewhere in the world.

How they work. Factories use an organized system called an assembly line where each worker or machine does one small job, then passes the item along to the next station. This way, thousands of products can be made quickly and efficiently.

People power. Factories need many workers with different skills to operate machines, manage quality, transport materials, and keep everything running smoothly. Today, some factories use robots to do dangerous or repetitive jobs.

Changed the world. When factories started being built about 250 years ago during the Industrial Revolution, they changed everything about how humans lived and worked. Factories made goods cheaper and more available to regular people, which transformed society.

Modern factories today. Today's factories are often computerized and use robots, lasers, and advanced technology to make products faster and with fewer mistakes than ever before.
