Quilts Tell Stories. Faith Ringgold created special quilts with painted pictures and words sewn right into them, so they were like books you could wrap around yourself. Each quilt told stories about real people and their adventures.
Painted and Performed. She didn't just make art to hang on walls, she also performed in front of audiences and acted out her stories to make them come alive. This mix of painting, sewing, and theater made her art totally unique.
Wrote for Children. Faith wrote and illustrated wonderful picture books for kids, including stories that celebrated African American heroes and taught important lessons about being yourself.
Fought for Fairness. Faith was an activist who stood up for what she believed in, fighting against unfair treatment and using her art to speak up for change and equality.
