Cool Facts
Named after butterflies. Farfalle means butterflies in Italian, and the pasta shapes really do look like little butterflies with their pinched middles and ruffled wings on each side.
Born in Italy long ago. Farfalle started in the Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna regions of Italy back in the 16th century, making it over 500 years old.
Comes in three sizes. There are regular farfalle, larger farfalloni for heartier dishes, and tiny farfalline that work great in soups and salads.
Great for catching sauce. The ruffled wings and pinched center of farfalle create little pockets that trap sauce and cheese, making every bite flavorful.
