Mostly covered by forest. Finland's landscape is dominated by boreal forest, which is the type of forest you find in cold northern places. This forest covers most of the country and is home to many animals and plants adapted to harsh winters.

Over 180,000 lakes. Finland has an incredible number of lakes scattered all across the country. That's why Finland is sometimes called the land of a thousand lakes, even though the real number is much higher!

Unique Nordic country. Finland is located in Northern Europe and borders Sweden, Norway, and Russia. Its capital city is Helsinki, and about 5.7 million people call Finland home.

Cold northern climate. The weather in Finland ranges from humid and cold in the south to extremely frigid and snowy in the north. Winters are long and dark, while summers are short and relatively mild.

Finnish and Swedish. The official languages are Finnish and Swedish. Finnish is spoken by most people and is quite different from other European languages, making it special and unique.
