Loud bang makers. Firecrackers are small tubes wrapped in heavy paper filled with explosive powder. When you light the fuse, the powder explodes and makes a really loud noise that people use to celebrate holidays and festivals.

Invented in China. Firecrackers started in China hundreds of years ago. People there discovered how to mix chemicals to create explosive powder, and they wrapped it in paper to make firecrackers for celebrations.

Paper and fuse design. Each firecracker has a fuse (a thin string you light) and a thick paper casing (the wrapper) that holds the explosive inside. The paper helps contain the blast so most of the energy goes into making sound instead of flying apart.

Noise over visuals. Unlike fireworks that light up the sky with colors, firecrackers are mainly designed to make a big sound. Any sparks or light they produce are just a side effect, not the main point.

Celebration tool. People light firecrackers during holidays, New Year celebrations, and festivals to add excitement and noise to the festivities. In many cultures, the loud bang is thought to bring good luck and ward off bad spirits.
