First Communion

A sacred milestone. First Communion is when a young person in certain Christian churches receives the Eucharist, which is bread and wine that represent Jesus's body and blood, for the very first time.

Usually happens young. In many Catholic, Lutheran, and Anglican churches, children have their First Communion between ages seven and thirteen, making it an important moment in their growing up.

Different traditions vary. Some churches, like the Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox churches, give children Holy Communion as babies during baptism, while other churches wait until children are older and ready to understand its meaning.
