Forest weasel family. Fishers belong to the mustelid family, which includes otters, badgers, and weasels. Despite their name, they are not cats at all, even though some people call them fisher cats.

Canadian forest home. Fishers live in the boreal forests and woodlands of Canada and the northern United States, where they hunt and explore among the trees.

Skilled meat eaters. As carnivores, fishers hunt small animals like rabbits, mice, and squirrels. They are one of the few animals brave enough to eat porcupines, attacking their soft belly areas.

Only one of its kind. The fisher is the only living member of its scientific genus, Pekania, which makes it quite special and unique in the animal world.
