No tackling allowed. Instead of knocking players down, defenders remove a flag or flag belt worn by the ball carrier to stop them. This makes the game much safer and less physical than traditional football.
Created in America. Flag football was invented in the United States and remains most popular there, though it's now played in competitions all around the world.
For everyone to play. Because there's limited contact and no heavy tackling, flag football is easier for kids, adults, and all body types to enjoy together on the same teams.
Official world competitions. The International Federation of American Football (IFAF) runs flag football tournaments, and there's even a special organization called the International Woman's Flag Football Association (IWFFA) for women's competitions.
