Mutiny Leader. In 1789, Fletcher Christian led a rebellion on the Royal Navy ship HMS Bounty, taking command from Captain William Bligh. This event became one of the most famous mutinies in maritime history.

At Sea. The mutiny happened while the Bounty was sailing in the South Pacific Ocean. Christian and the crew who sided with him were unhappy with the harsh conditions and discipline under Captain Bligh.

Island Escape. After the mutiny, Christian and his followers sailed to remote Pitcairn Island, a tiny and rarely visited place in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. They settled there hoping to avoid being captured by the Royal Navy.

Famous Story. The mutiny on the Bounty became so well known that it inspired books, movies, and countless retellings over the centuries. People are still fascinated by this daring act of rebellion at sea.
