Water Overflow. A flood is when water spills over its normal banks and covers dry land. This can happen with rivers, heavy rain, ocean tides, or melting snow.

Humans Make Them Worse. When people cut down forests, drain wetlands, or change rivers, they remove nature's sponges that soak up extra water. This makes floods more intense and more likely to happen.

Climate Change Effect. As Earth gets warmer, the water cycle becomes more extreme, with heavier rainstorms and higher ocean levels. This means more dangerous and frequent floods worldwide.
