Over 360,000 people live here. Florence is the capital of Tuscany, a region in Italy, and it's one of the most important cities in the whole country. The larger area around it has nearly a million people.

Birthplace of the Renaissance. During the 1300s to 1600s, Florence became the center of a creative explosion that inspired all of Europe. This period brought amazing advances in art, science, and thinking that shaped the modern world.
