Giant Squid

Truly enormous. Female giant squids can grow to about 5 meters (16 feet) long from their fins to the tips of their arms, making them one of the longest animals in the deep ocean.

Deep-sea dweller. Giant squids live in the dark, cold depths of the ocean, which is part of why they're so hard for scientists to study.

Long feeding tentacles. Their two special feeding tentacles can stretch about 10 meters (33 feet), but they stay hidden and tucked away in life.

Lighter than it looks. Even though it's longer than the colossal squid, the giant squid is much lighter because its body is less bulky and its arms make up a lot of its length.

Tall tales. Some people claim to have seen squids 20 meters (66 feet) long, but no one has ever scientifically proven such giants exist.
