The Giza Pyramid Complex

Three giant pyramids. The Giza complex contains the Great Pyramid (built for pharaoh Khufu), the pyramid of Khafre, and the pyramid of Menkaure. They were all constructed during Egypt's Fourth Dynasty around 2600 to 2500 BC.

The Great Sphinx guards them. A massive limestone statue with a human head and lion's body stands near the pyramids, watching over the complex like an eternal guardian.

Workers built it all. Archaeologists have found remains of a workers' village at the site, showing that thousands of people lived and worked there during construction.

More than just pyramids. The complex includes several temples where ancient Egyptians performed religious ceremonies, plus cemeteries where people were buried nearby.

Amazing engineering achievement. Without modern machines or tools, workers moved massive stone blocks into perfect geometric shapes that have survived earthquakes, wars, and over 4,500 years of weather.
