Sudden gold discoveries. When miners found gold in a new place, news would spread quickly and thousands of people would race there, hoping to find their own fortune and get rich fast.

Happened all over the world. Major gold rushes happened in the 1800s across Australia, the United States, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, Brazil, Chile, Greece, and Venezuela. These discoveries changed entire regions and brought people from all over the world to the same place.

Chasing wealth and dreams. People called it gold fever because everyone wanted to find nuggets of gold and become wealthy overnight. Many miners traveled thousands of miles with just their picks and pans, dreaming of striking it big.

Built new towns fast. Gold rush areas grew into towns almost instantly, with shops, saloons, and mining camps springing up where there had been empty land before. These boom towns were wild, crowded, and exciting places.

Other treasures too. Sometimes gold wasn't the only prize. Miners also found other precious metals and rare-earth minerals during these rushes, making some discoveries even more valuable.
