Massive ocean pirate. The great skua is a large seabird about the same size as a herring gull, built for hunting and fighting over food in the ocean.
Thief of the skies. This bird doesn't always catch its own fish, it actually chases other birds and forces them to drop their food so it can eat it instead.
Ocean wanderer. Great skuas hunt across the sea surface, swooping down to catch fish or to pounce on meals stolen from unlucky seabirds.
Called bonxie too. In Britain, people sometimes call the great skua by a fun nickname, bonxie, which is a local name for this fierce ocean hunter.
