Golden crown jewel. The grey crowned crane has a fancy stiff golden crown on its head, plus white cheeks and a red throat patch that make it look extra fancy and regal.

Eats everything. This bird is an omnivore, meaning it munches on plants, seeds, grain, insects, frogs, worms, snakes, small fish, and even aquatic animal eggs, whatever it finds on the ground.

African home. Grey crowned cranes live in Sub-Saharan Africa in dry savannahs, marshes, and grasslands near rivers and lakes where they can find water and food.

Disappearing birds. These beautiful cranes are listed as endangered, meaning their numbers are dropping and they need protection to survive in the wild.

Uganda's symbol. The grey crowned crane is so special that it was chosen as the national bird of Uganda, representing the country's natural beauty and wildlife.
