Cool Facts
Protects the head. Hard hats are helmets designed to guard workers from injuries caused by falling objects, bumps, and even electric shock. They're used on construction sites, in factories, and other dangerous workplaces.
Special inside bands. Suspension bands inside the hat spread out the weight of the helmet and any force from an impact across the top of your head, like spreading out a punch so it doesn't hurt as much in one spot.
Air gap safety feature. There's about 30 millimeters (about the width of your pinky) of empty space between the helmet shell and your head. If something hits the shell, this gap prevents the impact from going straight to your skull.
Ridge for strength. Many hard hats have a raised line running down the middle of the shell, kind of like a spine, that makes the helmet even stronger and better at resisting impacts.
