Doll displays. Families set up special platforms covered with red cloth and arrange ornamental dolls in fancy rows. The dolls wear elaborate traditional clothing from Japan's Heian period, which was over 1,000 years ago.

March 3rd tradition. Hinamatsuri happens every year on the same day, March 3rd. It's also called Doll's Day or Girls' Day and is a beloved celebration across Japan.

Imperial court dolls. The doll sets show the emperor, empress, attendants, and musicians dressed in beautiful old court outfits. Each doll has a special role, just like in a real royal palace long ago.

Historic tradition. This festival has been celebrated in Japan for hundreds of years as a way to wish good health and happiness for girls. Families pass down their doll sets through generations.
