Thousands of islands. Indonesia has about 17,000 islands spread across the Indian and Pacific oceans. Only some of the biggest islands like Java, Sumatra, and Sulawesi are well known, but there are thousands of smaller ones too.

Stretches far and wide. Indonesia is the 14th-largest country in the world by total area, covering about 1.9 million square kilometers. If you could see it from space, it would look like a giant chain of islands connecting Southeast Asia to Oceania.

Nature paradise. Indonesia has one of the highest levels of biodiversity on Earth, meaning it's home to an incredible variety of plants and animals found nowhere else. From orangutans and Komodo dragons to tropical rainforests and rare birds, it's a nature lover's dream.

Shares borders everywhere. Indonesia touches three countries by land: Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, and Malaysia. It also has ocean borders with seven other countries, including Australia and the Philippines, making it a hub of Southeast Asia.

Wild and untamed. Large parts of Indonesia are still wilderness with thick jungles and unexplored areas. These remote regions help protect endangered animals and ancient ecosystems that have existed for millions of years.
