Cool Facts
What is an invention?. An invention is something totally new or a clever improvement on something that already exists. It could be a machine, a recipe, a way of doing something, or even just an idea that nobody had thought of before.
Making things better. Inventions don't always have to be brand new. Sometimes they just make existing things work faster, cheaper, or easier. A better lightbulb or a faster way to tie your shoes counts as an invention too.
Patents protect ideas. When you invent something really cool and unique, you can get a patent, which is an official paper that says the invention is yours. This protects your idea and stops other people from copying it for a certain amount of time.
Making money from ideas. Once you have a patent, you can let other companies use your invention if they pay you money, called a license. This way, inventors can earn money from their brilliant ideas.
