Drip painting master. Jackson Pollock became famous for pouring and splashing liquid paint onto canvases lying flat on the ground, letting him paint from all sides at once. This technique was totally new and changed how people thought about making art.

Painted with his whole body. Instead of standing still with a brush, Pollock danced and moved his entire body to flick, drip, and splash paint onto his canvases. He called it action painting because the artist's movement was just as important as the final picture.

Covered the whole canvas. Pollock didn't focus on one spot or object like traditional painters did. He spread paint across the entire canvas with no clear center, filling every inch with colors and lines in what was called all-over painting.

People disagreed strongly. Some art lovers loved how fresh and energetic Pollock's paintings felt, made in the moment with wild movement. Others thought the dripping looked too random and messy to be real art, causing big debates about what counts as great painting.

Leader of abstract expressionism. Pollock became one of the most important artists of the abstract expressionist movement, which focused on emotion, energy, and color rather than painting realistic pictures of things.
