Cool Facts
Two different rocks. Jade is not one thing, but two totally different rocks called nephrite and jadeite. They look alike and are both used for beautiful jewelry and decorations, but they are made of completely different minerals inside.
Many stunning colors. Nephrite jade is usually green, but it can also be yellow, white, or black. Jadeite comes in even more colors, including white, green, lavender, yellow, orange, brown, black, and even rare blue jade that's super special.
Rocks, not crystals. Both types of jade are actually mineral aggregates, which means they're made of many tiny mineral pieces stuck together to form a rock. This is different from gemstones like diamonds that are single perfect crystals.
Prized for thousands of years. Jade has been carved and polished into ornaments and jewelry by cultures around the world for more than 7,000 years. Its smooth, beautiful surface and rich colors made it one of the most valued stones in human history.
