Cool Facts
Bones need connections. Joints are where bones meet and connect to each other, creating the links that hold your whole skeleton together and let it work as one system.
Built in lubrication. Some joints like your knees and elbows make their own slippery fluid that works like oil, so you can move smoothly without friction or squeaking.
Protecting what matters. The joints in your skull are super tight and barely move at all, which is exactly what you want because they're protecting your brain and your eyes and ears.
Even teeth have joints. Your teeth connect to your jawbone with a special joint called a gomphosis, which is a fibrous joint that holds your teeth firmly in place.
