Invented the symphony. Haydn didn't create the very first symphony, but he shaped it into the form we know today and wrote over 100 of them! He made symphonies exciting and important enough that other great composers wanted to write them too.

Created the string quartet. Before Haydn, there wasn't really a standard way for four string instruments to play together. He figured it out and wrote so many amazing string quartets that composers are still learning from them today.

Worked for royalty. Haydn spent 30 years working for the wealthy Esterhazy family in Austria, composing music for their palace and special occasions. This gave him freedom to experiment and create new musical ideas.

Still writing at 80. Haydn kept composing almost until the end of his life, creating some of his best work when he was very old. His last compositions show that his creativity never stopped growing.

Influenced all of Europe. Haydn's music and ideas spread across Europe and inspired younger composers like Mozart and Beethoven. His innovations became the foundation for how classical music was written for centuries.
