Surrounded by neighbors. Laos is the only country in Southeast Asia that doesn't touch the ocean. It is bordered by Myanmar, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand, so it has five neighbors all around it.
Ancient treasures. Laos has three amazing UNESCO World Heritage Sites that are protected by the whole world. These include the golden temples of Luang Prabang, the incredible temple complex of Vat Phou, and the mysterious Plain of Jars with thousands of stone jars.
Capital city. Vientiane is the biggest city in Laos and where the government is located. More than 7.5 million people live in the entire country.
Global connections. Laos works together with other countries in Southeast Asia through groups like ASEAN and trades with nations around the world. It is also part of La Francophonie, which connects French-speaking countries.
The Mekong River. The Mekong River flows through Laos and is super important for fishing, transportation, and farming in the region.
