Deciduous conifers. Larches are unusual because they're conifers like pine trees, but unlike most conifers, they actually lose all their needles every fall and grow brand new ones in spring, just like a regular forest tree.

Skyscraper trees. Larches can grow as tall as 195 feet, which is taller than the Statue of Liberty, and they dominate the vast boreal forests of Siberia and Canada.

Most abundant trees. Larches are the most common genus of trees on the entire planet, making up huge sections of the world's coldest forests where not many other trees can survive.

Super strong wood. Larch wood is incredibly tough and long-lasting, so shipbuilders and builders use it to make boats, decks, fences, and buildings that need to last for ages.

Useful products. People extract useful substances from larch trees like rosin for violin bows and turpentine for paint, plus oils that smell wonderful.
