Perfect leaf look-alikes. Leaf insects are stick insects that evolved to look exactly like leaves, complete with veins, colors, and even ragged edges. They're so convincing that you might step on one thinking it's just plant debris.

Nature's master disguise. These insects don't just look like leaves, they act like them too by swaying gently as they move through trees, mimicking how wind moves real leaves. Their camouflage is one of the best examples of mimesis, or copying, in the entire animal kingdom.

Asian home turf. Leaf insects live in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Australia, where tropical forests give them plenty of plants to blend in with. They're found in warm, leafy environments perfect for their hiding game.

Babies look different. Young leaf insects don't look quite like leaves yet, but as they grow and shed their skin multiple times, they gradually develop the perfect leaf disguise. It's like they're slowly becoming part of the plant they live on.
