Cool Facts
What LEDs are. LED stands for light-emitting diode, which is a tiny electronic chip that glows when electricity flows through it. Unlike old bulbs with hot filaments, LEDs create light without wasting energy as heat.
Energy superstars. LED lamps use way less electricity than regular incandescent bulbs to make the same amount of light. The best LED lamps can convert more than half of the electricity they use directly into light instead of wasting it.
Brightness measurement. Scientists measure how bright a light bulb is by counting lumens per watt. The most efficient LED lamps make over 200 lumens per watt, which is incredible compared to older light bulbs.
Last super long. LED lamps stay bright for years and years, much longer than incandescent or fluorescent bulbs. This means you don't have to replace them as often, which saves money and helps the environment.
Better for Earth. Because LEDs use so much less energy, they help reduce pollution and save electricity worldwide. Switching to LED bulbs is one of the easiest ways families can help the planet.
