Cool Facts
Massive ocean giant. Leedsichthys was one of the largest fish ever known to have lived, swimming through oceans during the Jurassic period when dinosaurs walked the Earth.
Ray-finned marvel. This fish belonged to a group called pachycormids, which were special kinds of ray-finned fish, the same group that most modern fish belong to today.
Ancient ocean dweller. Leedsichthys lived during the Middle to Late Jurassic period, making it a creature from a very ancient time, roughly 170 to 150 million years ago.
Extinct prehistoric wonder. No Leedsichthys swim in our oceans today because this entire genus went extinct long ago, and we only know about them from studying fossils.
