Builders of beauty. Luthiers carefully select wood, shape it by hand, and assemble string instruments piece by piece. Each instrument they create is unique because wood has its own grain patterns and sound qualities.

Fixing broken dreams. When a guitar string snaps or a violin bridge cracks, luthiers repair these delicate instruments to make them playable again. Their knowledge of how sound travels through wood makes them perfect for this job.

Wood science matters. Luthiers choose different types of wood for different parts of an instrument because each wood creates different sounds. Spruce might make bright tones while mahogany creates warm, deep ones.
