Magnificent Frigatebird

Lightning fast flyer. This bird zooms through the sky at speeds up to 95 miles per hour, making it one of the fastest birds in the entire world.

Huge wingspan. With wings that stretch 7 to 8 meters across (like a small car is long), the magnificent frigatebird is the biggest of all frigatebirds.

Tropical traveler. You can find these birds over warm ocean waters from Mexico all the way down to Peru on the Pacific side, and from Florida to Brazil on the Atlantic side.

Bright red throat pouch. Male magnificent frigatebirds have a big red pouch under their throat that they puff up to look impressive and attract females.

Island homes. Some populations live on special places like the Galápagos Islands and the Cape Verde islands, where they rest between hunting trips over the ocean.
