Lives near the surface. Mahi-mahi are ray-finned fish that live in warm waters close to the ocean's surface, where they hunt for food in tropical, subtropical, and temperate seas all around the world.

Known by many names. This fish has at least five different common names: mahi-mahi, dolphinfish, common dolphinfish, dolphin, and dorado. In Italy, people call it corifena or lampuga.

Found in warm waters. You'll find mahi-mahi most commonly near the Gulf of Mexico, Costa Rica, Hawaii, and throughout the Indian Ocean where the water stays warm and tropical.

Popular in cooking. Mahi-mahi is a tasty food fish that people around the world enjoy eating. In Italy, the fish was so famous it even gave its name to a traditional dish called caponata, though cooks now use eggplant instead.

One of two special cousins. Mahi-mahi belongs to a small family called Coryphaenidae that has only two members, the other being the pompano dolphinfish.
