Three special species. Mahogany comes from three different tropical tree species in the genus Swietenia, all native to the Americas. The most common one, Swietenia macrophylla, is the only kind that grows a lot for commercial use.

Reddish-brown treasure. Mahogany wood has a beautiful straight grain and a warm reddish-brown color that makes it perfect for making fancy furniture, fancy decorations, and even ships.

Tropical family member. Mahogany belongs to the chinaberry family, Meliaceae, which is found in tropical regions all around the world, making it part of a pantropical tree family.

Hardwood strength. Mahogany is classified as a hardwood, which means it is strong, dense, and long lasting, making it ideal for furniture and fine craftsmanship that lasts for centuries.
