Waving cat charm. The maneki-neko is a Japanese figurine that shows a cat with one paw raised in a friendly beckoning motion, as if inviting people to come closer.
Business helper. Shop owners, restaurant keepers, and casino workers place these cats near their entrances because they believe the figurines bring good luck and attract customers.
Calico classic. Traditional maneki-neko figurines depict calico Japanese Bobtails, cats with short tails and three-colored fur that are beloved in Japan.
Moving paw action. Many modern maneki-neko have a mechanical paw that slowly moves back and forth, making the beckoning gesture even more eye-catching and realistic.
