American artist abroad. Mary Cassatt was born in Pennsylvania but spent most of her adult life in France, where she became friends with the famous Impressionist painter Edgar Degas and showed her work alongside other Impressionists.

Painted mothers and kids. Cassatt loved painting intimate moments between mothers and their children, capturing tender hugs, quiet reading time, and everyday care in her beautiful, detailed artwork.

Master printmaker too. Besides painting, Cassatt was skilled at printmaking, which is a technique where artists carve designs into surfaces and press them onto paper to make multiple copies of their art.

Breaking art barriers. In a time when being an artist was difficult for women, Cassatt worked hard to be taken seriously and became one of the most respected painters of her era.
