Cool Facts
Castles changed everything. Castles became the main way people defended their land during the Middle Ages. These strong stone buildings were much better at stopping attacks than older wooden forts, so armies had to figure out completely new ways to fight.
Knights ruled the battlefield. Armored soldiers on horseback called knights became the superstars of medieval warfare. They could charge at enemies really fast and hit hard, which made them way more important than foot soldiers for a long time.
New weapons meant new plans. As weapons like crossbows and catapults got better, armies had to change their tactics. Soldiers couldn't just charge straight ahead anymore because smarter defenses and stronger weapons made that super dangerous.
Armor got heavier. Medieval soldiers wore more and more protective gear as time went on, with metal suits covering almost their whole body. This heavy armor protected them from arrows and swords, but it also made them slower and more tired in battle.
Archers became deadly. Arrows shot from longbows could punch through armor and kill soldiers from far away. This meant battles changed from just hand-to-hand fighting to include archers standing far back and raining arrows down on enemies.
