Ming Treasure Voyages

Seven epic voyages. The Ming Dynasty sent seven major ocean expeditions between 1405 and 1433. These weren't just short trips, they traveled thousands of miles to reach places like India, the Persian Gulf, Arabia, and East Africa.

Admiral Zheng He commanded. A brilliant admiral named Zheng He was chosen to lead these incredible voyages. He was trusted by the emperor to command the huge fleet and represent China across the world.

Emperor Yongle's grand idea. The Yongle Emperor ordered the construction of this massive treasure fleet in 1403 because he wanted to show China's power and explore distant lands. Six of the seven voyages happened during his rule.

Traveled incredibly far. The first three voyages reached Calicut on India's Malabar Coast, the fourth voyage went to Hormuz in the Persian Gulf, and the last three voyages explored the Arabian Peninsula and East Africa. These were some of the longest voyages of their time.

Explored new territories. These expeditions visited coastal areas and islands across the South China Sea and Indian Ocean, opening up trade routes and showing the world China's advanced seafaring abilities.
