Peace award legacy. The Nobel Peace Prize is one of five awards created by Alfred Nobel, a Swedish inventor who made his fortune from explosives. He wanted his money to help people who worked toward peace and other important discoveries.

Given every single year. The prize has been awarded almost every year since 1901, making it over 120 years old. Each winner receives a medal, diploma, and a large amount of money.

Recognizes peace makers. The prize honors people and groups who have worked to end conflicts, protect human rights, or help refugees. These could be leaders, activists, or ordinary people doing extraordinary work.

Decided by committee. A special Norwegian committee of five experts chooses the winner each year based on nominations from leaders, scientists, and peace organizations around the world.

Sometimes shared honor. The prize can go to one person or be split among multiple people or organizations in the same year when they've all made important contributions to peace.
