Northern Goshawk

Two species now. Scientists discovered the northern goshawk is actually two different species: the Eurasian goshawk and the American goshawk. They look different and have different genes, so they're now treated as separate kinds of birds.

Incredibly fast hunter. Goshawks are built for speed and agility in forests, diving between trees at amazing velocity to catch other birds and small mammals by surprise. Their short wings and long tail help them maneuver through tight spaces.

Forest dweller. These raptors live and hunt in thick forests where they can use trees to their advantage, stalking prey from above and below the canopy.

Sharp-eyed predator. Goshawks have enormous eyes positioned on the front of their heads, giving them incredible vision to spot movement and track fast-moving prey from far away.

Skilled bird hunters. Despite hunting many animals, goshawks especially love chasing other birds, using their incredible speed and maneuverability to catch pigeons, jays, and ducks in mid-flight.
