Connected to nature. Each nymph was tied to a specific place, landform, or tree. A nymph living in a forest was different from one living near a spring or on a mountain, and that place was part of who they were.

Special powers. Nymphs could heal people, tell the future through divination, and even shapeshift to look like different things. These abilities made them powerful spirits that people in ancient Greece believed in and respected.

Not quite goddesses. Unlike the major Greek goddesses, nymphs were minor deities usually shown as young maidens. Even though they had divine powers, they weren't immortal like the big gods and could actually die.

Healers of water. Because nymphs were associated with springs and water, people thought they had healing powers. Many ancient Greeks would visit springs hoping to be cured of illness or injury.
